Why Starting from Scratch Can Benefit Your Personal Brand

I don't think you know this, but I've been building my brand with you through my podcasts, my bloggings, my Instagram, my YouTube channel. You are seeing live how to build a personal brand. And just like, how many twists and turns there are, because no matter how much of an amazing brand strategy you have in your business, there's gonna be a lot of mishaps that come along the way, and you just have to roll with it. In my latest podcast episode (#33) of “The Fairy BOSSmother Show”, I revealed some strategies on how to be flexible in your brand, and how to grow your brand consistently, 1% every day.

Here are 4 key takeaways you can expect from the latest podcast:

1. Embracing the Pivot: Discover why starting from scratch is just a new version of you and how to use your existing expertise to your advantage. In case you didn’t know, my entrepreneurial journey began when I was just 24 or 25, with my first venture, Grassroot Diplomat. For ten years, I was a diplomat consultant working with politicians and diplomatics. But life had other plans for me. Trying to juggle two demanding roles was a real struggle, not to mention all the sleepless nights, and I knew I had to make a choice. Enter Boss Diplomat, and say goodbye to my diplomat consultant days.

Starting Boss Diplomat was like jumping off a cliff with no parachute. I had zero clients, no leads, and was in a new country with no connections. The only things I had? My expertise and unyielding desire to build something incredible. Starting from scratch might sound daunting, but it's really just the beginning of a new chapter, an evolution of you.

2. Nailing that Brand Name: Avoid my rookie mistake of picking a non-memorable podcast name—learn how I rebranded to the Fairy Boss Mother Show and how that changed the game. Creating an unforgettable brand doesn’t happen overnight. My clients often come to me through referrals, and being part of a referral network has been invaluable. During one of my 60-second pitches, I casually dropped the name ‘Fairy Boss Mother,’ and it stuck. People loved it! And so did I. It became an integral part of my brand identity.

Last year, in the flourishing second year of Boss Diplomat, I made a public announcement in New York City that I would be starting a podcast and YouTube channel—originally named "Be Your Brand." It sounded smart at the time, but I soon realized it wasn’t memorable. Even my husband, my most attentive listener, couldn’t remember it! That’s when I decided to rebrand to “The Fairy Boss Mother Show.” Sometimes, you’ve got to pivot and adapt to something that truly resonates not just with you but also with your audience.

3. Content is King: Hear about the importance of consistent content creation (yes, I post blog content four times a week!) and how it impacts your brand visibility. Let's talk dreams and goals, shall we? My BIG vision includes having my own Netflix show, inspired by Ramit Sethi’s "How to Make You Rich." Instead of financial advice, though, I’d focus on transforming brands, turning them into premium identities. Achieving such big dreams requires setting and hitting smaller daily goals.

For instance, I create reels every week and post three times a day. That’s right—3 times per day! I blog on my website to improve my SEO ranking and ensure Boss Diplomat stands out as a premier personal brand consultant. And I post like crazy on Instagram so that the internet robots understand my content and audience before I start to get my reels promoted to a wider audience. Recognize that slow and hard periods are inevitable, but each step you take contributes to the larger vision.

4. Mental Resilience: Get real insights on managing those tough days and external challenges that make you want to rip everything up. Navigating through the first quarter of 2024 has been incredibly challenging. From external factors affecting my business to seemingly relentless emergencies demanding my attention and funds, it felt like a never-ending obstacle course. There were days when I doubted myself profoundly and wondered if I could keep this going.

But you know what? It’s those hurdles that refine you. They push you to focus on different aspects of your business. During that rough patch, I turned my attention to my content strategy and online presence. If you scroll down my Instagram @bossdiplomat, you’ll see how my layout and format have evolved, even though my core message hasn’t.

One notable struggle was restarting my YouTube channel from scratch due to bot issues on my previous one. This was a tough decision but completely necessary for authentic growth. Remember, your branding journey is rarely smooth and perfect—embrace the bumps along the way and let them guide you to better paths.
